In episode 152 of “The JoyPowered® Workspace Podcast,” JoDee and Susan JoDee and Susan discuss engaging and retaining employees with Aaron Meyers, General Manager of Transcend Employee Engagement.
Aaron recently wrote “Retention in Action: A White Paper Analysis with Proactive Approaches to Enhance Strength Maintenance” based on some research he completed. He found that 70% of HR employees said their responsibilities increased post-COVID. He’s noticed many organizations just putting retention on HR’s plate, which is an unfair burden – and the organizations that are sharing retention duties between HR and frontline leaders are seeing higher morale and retention.
We often hear “safety is everyone’s concern.” Aaron recommends that you make retention everyone’s concern, too. Ask yourself who owns retention and how others can have skin in the game, too. Aaron also suggests finding employees outside of your chain of command, having lunch with them, and getting to know them – it makes a significant motivational difference in another person when you show them interest and appreciation.
In this episode’s listener mail, a listener asks about the FMLA 50/75 rule. In the news, Nort Treatment Center reported that binge drinking increased by 21% during the pandemic and that 50% of people say they drink more if they’ve had a stressful day or week at work.
