In episode 142 of “The JoyPowered® Workspace Podcast,” JoDee and Susan discuss the importance of convenient preventative healthcare and testing with Travis Rush, CEO and cofounder of Reperio.
Over half of employees in the US are covered by an employer sponsored health insurance plan, and many employers also offer health screening programs designed to uncover current or potential medical conditions. There are three things you should consider when offering health screenings as part of your wellness program: creating an overall sustainable culture of health, making engagement easy, and tracking and measuring success.
Travis Rush joins the show to share his expertise around preventative health screening. Over the past decade or so, there’s been a lot of amazing technology that has allowed people to be a little more proactive about their health. The pandemic has caused healthcare regulators to speed up the process and let some of this technology come to the surface.
The US healthcare industry is very reactive, and employers are in a unique position to be the ones that help people take better care of themselves so they can get ahead of potential future health problems. At home screening kits like the ones that Reperio offers can also relieve some of the burden on our healthcare system by allowing people to perform their own preventative screenings that may not be necessary to do in person. They make screenings more convenient for people and can provide doctors with some initial insight they can work from to dig deeper.
On site screenings can be time consuming and can cause some discomfort for employees. Walking out of the screening room to questions from coworkers about the numbers and data creates a lot of pressure and anxiety for some people. Screenings at an off site location can also cause problems, because hourly employees may be losing money to do the screening.
In this episode’s listener mail, we’re asked about how to accommodate employees’ individual needs without running into discrimination issues. In the news, a Preply survey found that 70% of workers feel fatigued if they go too long without a break and 56% of workers feel stressed if they don’t take annual leave regularly.
