In this episode, we talk to three of the authors of the upcoming anthology Joy@Work: When Women Lead. This book was written from the perspective of women, but not just for women. It’s for those who work with women, work for women, lead women, or just know women.

First up is Gretchen Schott, who wrote about choosing to lead with love. When we lead with love, we focus on how humble we are. We have proper motivation and are confident in what we’re doing. If you want to lead with love, start by doing the things that allow you to feel loving towards yourself. Then, understand that what motivates you may not necessarily motivate the people you’re working with.

Jill Lehman’s contribution to Joy@Work was a discussion of being you-powered. If you want to have the opportunities you desire in your career, you need to advocate for yourself. Jill shares some of the signs that you’re on career autopilot: feeling stuck, disengaged, or even burned out. Self-awareness is important in your journey toward you-power. You can build self-awareness by journaling, asking for feedback, understanding your values, doing a SWOT analysis, or taking assessments.

In Sarah Turner’s contribution to the book, she covered hardiness and its three components: challenge, control, and commitment. You can see stress as a threat or a challenge; to shift to a challenge mindset, Sarah suggests taking a moment to think about why your body is responding the way it is. Is your heart racing because you’re in danger, or is it because you’re excited and motivated to reach a goal? In tough times, pausing to think about some things you’re grateful for can help you stay resilient.

In this episode’s listener question, we’re asked about the best training tools with the shift from in-person to remote training programs. In the news, personal happiness is the major driver for a satisfying work life, not the other way around.
