Artificial intelligence is being used more and more in all areas of business. Some common areas it’s being used in HR are simplifying compliance, getting real-time multi-jurisdiction compliance checks on employment contracts, staying up to date with regional regulations for benefits and entitlements, and creating personalized professional development plans. In the next few years, AI is going to fundamentally change how work gets done.

Particularly with larger HR organizations, we’re seeing AI used for more digital front doors and ways to deliver advice around policies and procedures; things like what to do if you need to go on a leave of absence, questions about PTO, issues with payroll, etc. Transactional areas of HR service will be the first to be automated, then talent management consulting will become a premium.

AI can help with talent acquisition, helping sift through larger candidate pools, creating internal slates to facilitate mobility, mining people’s experiences to understand whether they have adjacent experience, and determining the core skills needed for the organization. There are also some interesting applications in learning personalization, where platforms can take your input and development plan to suggest content specific to your needs. When you have large amounts of data, like an employee engagement survey, it can do sentiment analysis to save you time manually going through all the comments. AI is also great for analyzing your pay and ratings equity to help you identify bias.

Try using AI every day to learn about it and how it can help you. And ask it to cite sources – this will help you validate that the content it gives you is accurate. At this point, it doesn’t have to be about productivity; it’s about learning and getting comfortable experimenting.

In this episode’s listener question, we’re asked how we got started with the show and how we pick topics. In the news, younger generations are more likely to say they’d rather be unemployed than have a job that makes them unhappy.
