In episode 90 of “The JoyPowered® Workspace Podcast,” JoDee and Susan discuss the dysfunctions and behaviors of cohesive teams with certified coach Laura Hayes. Topics include what the five behaviors of a cohesive team are, what’s at stake if teams don’t work on those behaviors, and slowing down to speed up.
In Patrick Lencioni’s book, “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team,” he reveals five dysfunctions that go to the very heart of why teams, even the best ones, often struggle. Our guest expert is Laura Hayes, who is a certified coach in the five behaviors of a cohesive team, the training program based on Lencioni’s book.
Laura explains the five behaviors of a cohesive team: trust, productive conflict, commitment, accountability, and collective results. Accountability tends to be the lowest of these behaviors, and Laura goes deeper into why accountability is so important and who needs to be holding who accountable. When Laura trains teams on the five behaviors, it’s not knowledge, it’s how the teams are practicing them, through activities like life story maps, the DISC personality profile, and best and worst qualities. Slowing down to speed up is also crucial – spending the time on the front end making sure everyone’s on board and committed saves you mental energy and emotion later on.
In this episode’s listener question, JoDee and Susan share their suggestions for explaining a short stint of employment on a resume. In the news, the National Labor Relations Board recently tightened up the definition of joint employer.
