In episode 99 of “The JoyPowered® Workspace Podcast,” JoDee and Susan discuss emotional intelligence with EQ trainer and coach Linda Comerford.
Emotional intelligence is the degree to which you recognize and manage your own emotions, and understand others’ emotions and can relate to them. Linda Comerford joins the show and shares what motivated her to become a trainer and coach on emotional intelligence.
People often get concerned about emotional intelligence, thinking it involves psychoanalysis, but that’s not the case. It’s an assessment of how frequently you use a set of skills and an effort to raise, lower, and balance your use of those skills to feel better about yourself and interact better with others.
The program Linda teaches focuses on 15 skills of emotional intelligence, which are broken up into five composites: self-perception, self-expression, interpersonal relationships, decision making and problem solving, and stress management. Linda shares her tips on two of the skills that stood out to Susan and JoDee: emotional expression and empathy.
In this episode’s listener question, a listener asks about rescinding offers, which is happening often in their industry during COVID-19. In the news, JoDee and Susan discuss how the DOL’s new regular rate of pay rule impacts benefits.
